Following report of 1st confirmed case of coronavirus in state, several districts order restriction on public movement to prevent further spread of deadly COVID-19
Imphal: Amid lockdown and the first confirmed case of coronavirus in Manipur on Tuesday, various districts of the state have ordered restriction on public movement outside their residences to prevent further spread of the deadly COVID-19.
The districts which have taken the step include Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Noney and Ukhrul.
In a prohibitory order, Bishnupur district magistrate Neeta Arambam informed that under Sub-section (2) of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc), 1973, the movement of any person outside their respective residences has been restricted with effect from 8 am in the morning of March 24 till further orders.
Churachandpur district magistrate Pawan Yadav also issued a similar order as precautionary measure to maintain public health and tranquility.
A need is felt to further restrict all forms of public movement and public assembly under Section 144 of CrPc as there is possibility of the pandemic creating public health crisis and law and order issue in the district (Churachandpur), said the statement.
Any person found violating of the prohibitory ordered and guidelines issued by the district administrations will be punished under Section 188 of the India Penal Code (IPC), informed Ukhrul district deputy commissioner Joseph Pauline Kamson.
Following the reports of the first COVID-19 confirmed case in the state on Tuesday, the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital decided to temporarily close the OPD for fear of further spread of the deadly disease.
“In view of the changing scenario of COVID-19 spread in the state, it is ordered that the OPD of JNIMS Hospital is closed down except flu clinic/OPD with immediate effect until further notice,” said JNIMS Hospital medical superintendent Prof T Rajen Singh in a statement.
A 23-year-old girl who had recently returned from London was tested positive for novel coronavirus aka COVID-19 on Tuesday, making it the first confirmed case of Manipur and Northeast region as a whole.
