COVID-19: Partial lockdown ordered in Dibrugarh district of Assam

Order comes on a day when states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand & Delhi declared complete lockdown

Tinsukia: The district administration of Dibrugarh has declared partial lockdown in the entire district to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the first district in upper Assam to take such extreme steps.

The order comes on a day when several including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi declared complete lockdown while states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland declared partial shutdown.

The order, signed by district magistrate Pallav Gopal Jha, said, "In exercise of the power conferred upon under regulation 12 of the Assam COVID-19 regulation 2020, the district magistrate, Dibrugarh has ordered closure of all shops, commercial establishments except pharmacies, clinical establishments, grocery and essential item shops, petrol pumps, LPG outlets, printing press and fish, meat, vegetable market -subject to maintenance of proper sanitation and hygienic condition by lesses."

"The order comes into force with immediate effect until further order," the order read. Any violation of the order will invite punitive action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, it added.

The order has been issued to prevention of mass gatherings and crowds in market places.

According to latest reports, over 13,700 deaths related to coronavirus have been recorded globally. On Sunday, three deaths were recorded in India taking the tally to seven and positive cases to over 390.
