The move is aimed to limit the gathering of masses as the country records a sharp rise in number of positive cases of coronavirus in the past few days
Tinsukia: Amid increasing cases of coronavirus in the country, the administration of Dibrugarh in Assam on Saturday ordered closure of all shopping malls in the entire district.
The development comes on a day when India has recorder over 50 positive cases of COVID-19 novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, almost double than what it was in the previous 24 hours, and at a time when several town have been put under lockdown.
The order, issued by additional district magistrate, said, "In view of the present situation of spreading of Corona virus as well as prevention of outbreak of COVID-19, the Dibrugarh district administration has ordered closure of all the shopping malls under Dibrugarh district wef 21.3.2020 until further order."
"If anyone found violating this order will be treated is punishable offence under the Assam COVID-19 Regulation, 2020," the order read.
In a separate appeal issued by Dibrugarh district administration, it has advised mosques, mandirs, namghars, churches, etc to refrain from any mass prayer or gathering at their premises in the interest of preventing inter-community infection of coronavirus among the masses.
