The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will conduct a computer-based Common Admission Test (CAT) on November 24, 2019 in two separate sessions. CAT 2019 is a pre-requisite test for admission to different post-graduate and fellow programmes of IIM. CAT 2019 scores are allowed to be used by listed non-member IIM member institutions.


The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA awarded by any university or educational institution as incorporated by an act of parliament or state legislature in India or declared to be deemed as an university under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.

Candidates applying for CAT 2019 should fulfill any one of the following conditions:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree with required percentage marks
  • Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with required percentage
  • Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with required percentage

Reservations: As per the legal requirements 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of the seats are reserved for other backward classes candidates belonging to the ‘non-creamy’ layer (NC-OBC). Upto 10% of the seats are reserved for economically weaker sections (EWS) candidates. As per the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, 5% seats are reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwD).

Payment of CAT registration fee:

  • Rs 950 for SC, ST and PwD candidates
  • Rs 1,900 for all other candidates

Please note that a candidate needs to pay the registration fee only once, irrespective of the number of institutes he/she is applying for. SC, ST and PwD candidates must upload a copy of their caste certificates at the time of registration. Fees once paid cannot be refunded.

The registration window for CAT 2019 open on August 7, 2019 and will close at September 18, 2019 at 5 pm. During the registration, candidates will have to select any four test cities as per their preference. The candidates will be allotted centres only among the preferred cities subject to availability. Candidates can download the admit card from October 23, 2019 to November 24, 2019.
