Guwahati: In a shocking incident, an uber driver assaulted a Muslim passenger with a rod and called him Bangladeshi for refusing to pay for the ride in cash.

Mohd Abuzar Choudhary booked an Uber for Kamakhya Temple and chose an online payment option to pay for the ride. However, the cab driver insisted that he won’t accept any online payment and must be paid in cash.

When Choudhary refused to pay in cash, the cab driver became aggressive and assaulted him with a rod. He even called the passengers Bangladeshis.

The passengers warned the cab driver that they are going to file a complaint about his erratic behaviour, upon which he got in the car and tried to run it over the passengers.

Twitter user Nikita Jain, who is an independent journalist, and was travelling along with Choudhary, tagged the state’s police machinery that was quick to swing into action. A police complaint was also filed at the nearest police station and the cab driver has been arrested.

Further investigations are going on in the matter, the Guwahati police said.

The incident, however, sparked outrage among netizens. Below are some of the reactions:
