Guwahati: The 100th birth anniversary celebrations of Nritya Nipun Late Charoo Bordoloye, the 1st Kathak exponent of Assam and Founder Principal of Assam State College of Music (presently known as LKRB State College of Music), was observed at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati, on December 31, 2021.

On the occasion, the 1st edition of the autobiography of the multifaceted genius titled “My Life And Art Divine” was unveiled by Bimal Borah, Hon’ble Minister for Cultural Affairs, Power, Tourism, Sports & Youth Affairs.

Jatin Goswami (Padma Awardee & eminent Sattriya exponent), who could not be present due to health issues, offered his tributes to the legendary artist and conveyed his best wishes to Charoo Bordoloye Foundation, the organisers of the event.

Many prominent personalities including Dr. Amiya Mohan Das, Ramkrishna Talukdar (Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, eminent Sattriya exponent & a former disciple), Bipul Das (eminent Kathak exponent), Loknath Goswami (eminent singer), Kishor Thakuria (ACS), Director (Cultural Affairs) were present on the occasion.

Prominent disciples Marami Medhi (eminent Kathak exponent), Minu Gogoi (noted flutist), Sabita Saikia (noted Sattriya exponent), Karabi Bhattacharyya (faculty LKRB State College of Music), Akan Das (faculty LKRB State College of Music) and many more were present on the august occasion and offered their tributes to the multi-faceted genius.

An online dance competition on Kathak, Sattriya and Bharatnatyam was organised by the foundation to commemorate the occasion. The winners of the competition were felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony.

A video montage based on the life of Nritya Nipun Late Charoo Bordoloye presented by The Jollywood Cafe was also shown during the event. The event also saw cultural performances by the students of Mridanga (Kathak), Naratana Kala Niketan (Sattriya), Anusuya Dance Academy (Bharatnatyam), who offered their tributes to the legendary artist.

Charoo Bordoloye Foundation is an initiative by the Nritya Nipun’s grandson Chiranjib Bordoloye and family members to promote and preserve the works and contributions of Late Charoo Bordoloye towards Assam’s cultural landscape.
