Guwahati: The 29-year-old model, who was involved in the accident that injured 9 people on October 2, has been arrested by the police. She had been booked under Section 308 of IPC for attempt to commit culpable homicide with a punishment of up to 7 years of imprisonment, fine or both.
Rajkanya Baruah was arrested within minutes of her medical report being submitted by a six-member medical board. As per the medical board, there was no serious or acute condition that warranted her to be admitted into a hospital.
After an hour-long medical examination, in presence of DCP Shubhrajit Bora, the medical team concluded in the report that she was fit to appear before the investigating officer and does not need to be hospitalised.
“Various clinical scores were applied APACHE & RTS was applied to the clinical and biochemical reports which does not fit to keep her into a ICU setup/Medical admission. Blood investigations are within normal limit. In view of the above findings, she is fit to appear before I/O for the needful and does not require any hospitalization,” read the GMCH medical examination report.
“There are two factors, number one is that she was summoned for further investigation but her mother wrote a letter saying that she is not well and is admitted in the Semi-ICU ward and she won’t be able to join the investigation for two weeks. Regarding this, we requested the GMCH for a medical board report, because we were also worried about what inconvenience she has because this also affects the case,” said Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh.
“Today, like you all know, a board of the GMCH with reputed doctors has given a report that says that there is nothing in her system right now which shows that she should be in a semi-ICU.” the senior police official added.
“In the meantime, we received another FIR against her, so there is one more case and this time she has been arrested against that case. Meanwhile, few sections have been added in the older case and we have accepted those sections. Today morning we received one more FIR that after the accident she attacked somebody else. The person she attacked is in the hospital,” said the police commissioner.
When asked if there will be any other action against representatives of GNRC hospital, he said, “We will look at all the angles. It is a question of inquiry and it is a question of the doctors from the hospital. So we will be asking them as well, on what basis was she hospitalized. Meanwhile, our officers are in the hospital and they are investigating the matter.”
The former model and Femina Miss India finalist managed to get bail within 24 hours of the incident and was admitted in the ICU of GNRC hospital in Guwahati. The police are re-investigating Rajkanya Baruah’s case.
The Guwahati-based model was granted bail within 24 hours after she was arrested in the wee hours on October 2, when the 2016 Miss India finalist was allegedly driving back home in an inebriated state after a party at Taj Vivanta Hotel in Khanapara. She rammed her vehicle into nine PWD labourers near Down Town on GS Road.
