Guwahati: In recent years, the concept of pub quizzes have gained immense popularity. The idea of quirky pub quizzes has taken many countries like the UK and the Unites States by a storm and is now making its way into the Indian pub scene.
Many pubs and rest-o-bars in metropolitan cities of the country have been running pub quiz nights to appeal to their clientele who are always on the lookout for something fresh and different.
The first of its kind ‘Epic Trivia Nights’ was organized by BoardUp Guwahati, the first board game club in Guwahati. Founded by three women, the organization aims to popularize the concept of board gaming in Assam and beyond.
Board gaming is more than a hobby, it is a way for people to form new friendships, challenge their minds and also, most importantly, disengage from the screen and reconnect with the people around them.
The event was organised in association with Shanghai Salsa, which is among the top restaurants in Guwahati, popular for open mics, musical nights and delicious Mexican food.
Held on 10th September, the quiz night saw a packed house. The quizmaster and host, Tanika Nayar divided participants into teams of 2-4 members that competed in three rounds. Each round, with a unique format, comprised questions on movies, music and general knowledge.
The first round was a direct question and answer round, the second round was a multiple choice question round and the last round was a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ one.
Keeping in mind Covid-19 protocols, sanitization of tables and body temperature checks at the door was carried out for the safety of all the participants.
A total of eight teams namely 3 Tacos for Tuco, Scream Queens, Veni Vidi Whiskey, Dhodua, Dazed and Confused, Baazigar, Targaryens, and Powerpuff Girls competed for the title of ‘Legendary Quiz Champions.’
Though it was a close match, team Baazigar bagged the title with a total of 250 points. The team were awarded with a gift hamper at the end of the event and all participants received special goodies and coupons.
The first ever ‘Epic Trivia Nights’ at Shanghai Salsa was a big success and the organizers are planning the next quiz night, to be held at at the same venue. In addition to this, the team is also looking to host unique events at interesting locations in the city.
Always on the lookout for new experiences themselves, the team hopes to add their own two cents to the Guwahati nightlife scene with innovative ideas, thorough planning and flawless execution.
