Silchar: Sivasagar MLA and the founder-president of Raijor Dal Akhil Gogoi is scheduled to visit Assam’s Barak Valley on May 30, with a view to strengthening the organizational structure of the party in the valley.
Gogoi, who will be on a 3-day visit to Barak valley, will begin his tour in Hailakandi district.
On May 16, the Hailakandi District Committee of Raijor Dal held a meeting to finalise the preparations for Gogoi’s visit and the issues that needs to be discussed with part leader for strengthening the party in the district, sources said.
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti’s Hailakandi district committee president Sharif Uddin Mazarbhuiya, Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti’s central committee vice-president Farid Uddin Laskar, Raijor Dal’s Hailakandi assembly constituency president Jarjis Ahmed, general secretary Ali Hussain Laskar, Raijor Dal’s Hailakandi district committee working president Himangshu Goswami, vice-president Lutfur Rahman and secretary Amit Nath were present in the meeting.
Jahir Uddin Laskar, Raijor Dal’s central committee president, said that Gogoi would reach Hailakandi on May 30 and attend a meeting with party workers. “Over 500 people, led by former Asom Gana Parishad leader and well-known social worker of Hailakandi Kamrul Islam, will join the Raijor Dal on that day,” Laskar said.
Talking to EastMojo on Tuesday, Laskar said, “Gogoi, as per schedule, will reach Silchar airport on May 30 morning and he will be received by the party’s Silchar unit members. From there, Gogoi will reach Dhaleshwar in Hailakandi district where party members will receive him. A procession will be carried out from near Srikishan Sarada College and will conclude at Town Hall. At Town Hall, Gogoi will attend a party workers’ meet and discuss various issues. Workers of different units of the party will take part in the meeting. Former AGP leader Kamrul Islam Barbhuiya along with a huge number of people will join the Raijor Dal on that day,” Laskar said.
The Sivasagar MLA will also attend party meetings in Karimganj and Silchar on May 31 and June 1 respectively.

According to Laskar, Akhil Gogoi’s three-day visit and his participation in various party meetings are aimed at chalking out strategies to strengthen the Raijor Dal’s base in the Barak Valley. “The party is gradually spreading across the districts and Barak Valley. Gogoi’s visit is going to provide a huge boost to the workers,” he said.
The Raijor Dal (People’s Party) was founded on October 2, 2020. It stepped into the arena of politics for the first time in the 2021 assembly election in Assam. The party contested in 29 seats in the assembly election and won one seat in Sivasagar.
