Guwahati: In recognition of his contribution to society, Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati, Arshel Akhter, has been awarded the Northeast Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Award for 2021.
The 4th edition of the ‘North East Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards 2021’ was held at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai on May 12.
A total of 35 awards, which include 25 unsung heroes and 10 people in special categories from the 8 North-eastern states, were awarded in recognition of their silent contribution to society.
The award categories are sports, entertainment, entrepreneurship, social, art & culture, education & literature, and frontline heroes.
Arshel Akhter was awarded in the social category from Assam for his contribution towards the promotion of cycling and advocacy work for active mobility through his organisations – Pedal for a Change and Green an Active Mobility Forum.
The award was given under the aegis of Find Studioz and Indian Chamber of Commerce for Affirmative Action.
The North East Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social awards started the journey in Nagaland, followed by Sikkim in 2018 and Mumbai in 2019.

The 2021 edition was held at the Bombay Stock Exchange office. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari had hosted the Dinner for the Awardees from Northeast at Raj Bhavan.
Founders of the Northeast Unsung Heroes Rebecca Changkia Sema and Jutikaa Mahanta said the primary purpose of the award was to raise awareness, recognise and honour the hard work, and valuable contributions of individuals towards society from different walks of life. The benefits of our social platform have an incredible impact, we could touch many lives through this platform, Mahanta said.
