Silchar: In a proud moment for Assam, a resident of Barak Valley’s Karimganj district has won gold medal in Masters of Science in Biotechnology from JIS University in West Bengal.
Ankita Paul, who hails from Patharkandi in Karimganj, received the gold medal at the university on April 30.
Talking to EastMojo on Monday, an elated Ankita said she has always believed in doing smart work and her approach towards studies has been similar. “I have always given priority to smart work over hard work. And by God’s grace, this has given me good results,” Ankita said.
Ankita completed her matriculation from Holy Children High School, Patharkandi, in 2013 (with 86.4 per cent marks) and her higher secondary (science stream) in 2015 from Ramanuj Gupta Junior College in Silchar (with 85.6 per cent marks). She completed her graduation from Cotton University, Guwahati, in 2019 (with 8 CGPA). Thereafter, she took admission in the Master’s degree course (Biotechnology) at JIS University in West Bengal, from which she bagged a gold medal and her CGPA was 9.53.
Ankita is now pursuing her PhD in endocrinology from Central Drug Research Institute in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Asked about her hobbies, she said she loves reading books and dancing.
Ankita’s father Ajoy Paul, who is a businessman, said Ankita was sincere towards studies since her childhood. “We never had to tell Ankita to sit down to study even when she was a child. She was always sincere,” he said.
He said it was a great feeling to see his daughter winning a gold medal and bringing name and fame for the family. “I am feeling great. I am confident that she (Ankita) will reach bigger heights in the future,” he said.

Congratulatory messages are pouring in from all of Ankita’s relatives and all are wishing her more success in the days ahead. The news of her getting the gold medal has also surfaced on social media where netizens showered praises, congratulating her for the great feat.
