GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) will host the first edition of the North-Eastern Research Conclave (NERC-2022) from May 20 to 22, 2022, to boost collaboration between industry and academia in the region.

The conclave will be at the IIT-Guwahati campus in association with the science, technology and climate change department and the Department of Education, Assam government.

The conclave is expected to host around 3,000 eminent personalities from the eight Northeast states and other parts of India, hailing from various sectors such as industry, academia, start-ups, research councils, PSUs, laboratories and technical institutes, including schools and colleges of the north-eastern region.

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan is expected to preside over the event along with Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma; DoNER minister G. Kishan Reddy and other dignitaries.

Highlighting the significance of the conclave, IIT-G director Prof. T.G. Sitharam said the participation of scientists, researchers, policymakers, and administrators would enhance research activities in the Northeast, which has great potential in terms of resources and people. The focus of the conclave will be to strengthen research and development handholding among the stakeholders of Northeast and to benefit the local people of the region through research, innovation and startups.”

The mission of NERC-2022 is to create a common interface for collaboration and showcase the best research and development activities through exhibitions from all the educational/research institutions, industries, and various agencies across the states of Northeast India.

Besides, the conclave aims to create an environment conducive to the development of local indigenous technologies and innovations, creating the scope and laying the foundation for the promotion of translational research and entrepreneurship, and help the country achieve the goals of SDGs.

The activities during the three-day conclave will include research and development exhibitions, brainstorming sessions, entrepreneur summit, sanitising school children towards taking research as a career option and lectures from scientists /industry experts/policymakers.
