About 100 vultures have been found dead and many critical at Milanpur, Chaiygaon informed the Assam Forest Department.

The doctors and field staff are trying their best to treat the critical ones, the state Forest Department informed via Twitter.

This is not the first report of mass deaths of vultures in Assam. In January 2021, thirty-four critically-endangered vultures died in Tinsukia in Eastern Assam.

Experts suspected it to be a case of poisoning. The dead and the injured include slender-billed and white-backed vultures, both critically endangered on the IUCN list.

In February 2021, twenty vultures, including the critically-endangered White Rumped species, died of poisoning, again in Tinsukia district.
