On December 25, the police found the body of one Diganta Das with injury on his head in the early hours on the National Highway near Koliabhomora Brahmaputra bridge under Sollong PP under Uluwani PS, Kaliabor.

The body was identified to be of Diganta Das, a street food vendor from Tezpur. A case was filed in this regard by his father after the family suspected his death, which was made to look like an accident, was actually a case of murder.

“Based on technical surveillance and scientific techniques and human intelligence, one Tirthankar Roy of Tezpur was apprehended on January 9, 2022. He was a friend of Diganta Das and, upon interrogation, revealed the facts.

He told the police that on Christmas eve he and Diganta had come to Ambagan to consume drugs in the house of one Abdul Malek. There Diganta had a quarrel with Abdul Malek over a vial of drugs that costs Rs 100 and during the scuffle Abdul Malek attacked Diganta with an axe on his head, killing him on the spot. Abdul Malek, who are reportedly intoxicated at that time, threatened Tirthankur Roy not to divulge the incident or he would face the same fate and they left his dead body on the road, Roy reportedly told the police.

On getting this information, the police swung into action and raided Male’s house but he wasn’t there. But the police recovered the axe used to kill Diganta.
