Guwahati: Situation turned tense after three members of a family were killed in a tragic road accident when a scooty they were travelling in collided with a Tata Sumo head-on at Dhodar Ali area of Mariani in Jorhat, Assam.

Meanwhile, locals in Mariani blocked the road and staged protests against the Sumo driver, forcing the Nagaland government to issue a travel advisory for its citizens against travelling through the said route.

“In view of the unfortunate accident involving Mokokchung-bound Sumo from Dimapur at Dhodar Ali in Assam on Monday, thereby causing the death of three persons, the situation prevailing in the current scenario is said to be tense,” said the advisory issued by Dharam Raj, additional deputy commissioner of Mangkolemba, Nagaland.

The Tata Sumo was on its way to Mokokchung from Dimapur when it had a head-on collision with a scooter at Dhodar Ali in Mariani (between Mariani and Golaghat), in Assam on Monday.

The Tata Sumo bearing registration number NL 02 T 2114 was on its way to Mokokchung from Dimapur in Nagaland when it hit the scooter bearing registration number AS 03 Z 5886. The scooter riders’ mother, daughter and son-in-law died on the spot, according to reports.

“All the Nagaland-bound/originating travellers via Assam are advised to avoid taking the said route until the prevailing situation is calmed. Further, all the Mokokchung-bound travellers may take the Golaghat-Merapani-Champang-Sonowal route to avoid unnecessary harassment in Mariani, Assam,” the advisory said.
