There has been no trace of two missing persons after an iron rod-laden truck they were driving rammed into the railing of Kaliambhumura bridge before falling into the Brahmaputra river in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Tuesday around 1:09 am.

The persons have been identified as truck driver Rajib Biswakarma and conductor Amrit Dhadnowar.

Although rescue operations by the SDRF and River Police are still underway, there has been no successful outcome yet.

“We received information in the morning that a vehicle breached the railings of Kaliabhomora bridge and fell into the river. We got this news from the police station. We came here and informed SDRF and river police. The SDRF has, meanwhile, been able to find a vehicle underwater,” said a police official.

Family members of truck driver Rajib Biswakarma shared that they have not been able to establish any contact with him since Sunday.

“He called us on Sunday night and informed us that he would be travelling to Banderdewa as the vehicle was loaded. After that, his phone had been switched off. According to the police, the accident took place between 1 am-2 am. As we were trying to call him in the morning, his phone was still switched off,” said Rajib’s younger brother.
