GUWAHATI: Union minister of state for consumer affairs, food & public distribution and environment, forest & climate change, Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Friday inaugurated 50,000 MTs Modern Rail-linked Grand Silo at Changsari in Assam’s Kamrup district.

Speaking on the occasion, Choubey said it is a great initiative to build such a grand SILO in Assam for the storage of food grains and its sustainability.

Saying that 10 lakh metric tonne (LMT) food grains (paddy) will be procured in Assam in this KMS (Kharif Marketing Season) 2021-22, the Union minister also assured to work closely with the state government in order to give every possible assistance regarding food supply and distribution.

Assam minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that MSP (Minimum Support Price) is provided to farmers in order to safeguard the farmer to a minimum profit for the harvest. He also said that Rs 1940 per quintal will be given to each farmer for the purchase of food grains in Assam.

In her speech, MP Queen Oja said that it is a great privilege to have such a food grain SILO in Changsari which will prevent less deterioration of food grains. “Such industry will improve employment to local people and boost the area’s development”, she said.

Food Corporation of India (FCI) chairman and managing director Atish Chandra, executive director, (SILOS) FCI, Rabindra Agarwal, FCI executive director Manoj Kumar Gogoi, FCI- Northeast executive director Paishuni Kunar, Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Sudesh Kumar Yadav, GM (R) FCI, Assam and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
