Baithalangso: A total of 1,893 former cadres of six extremist groups of Karbi Anglong and leaders of several local political parties joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a rally held at Dongkamukam in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district on Monday.

Of them, 87 are former cadres of People’s Democratic Council of Karbi-Longri (PDCK), 383 former Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT), 138 former United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) and more than a hundred leaders and workers of the Congress party, APHLC (All Party Hill Leaders Conference) and ASDC (Autonomous State Demand Committee).

“Glad to receive 1,892 more families from APHLC, Congress, CPI ML to @BJP4India at Dongkamukam #PeaceAndDevelopment Rally. With @horensingbey, H/MP, EMs, MACs, Radip Ronghang, President, BJP, West KA, dignitaries on the dice, supporters from Bithung, Hamren, Kopili, and Rongkhang,” Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member Tuliram Ronghang said in a tweet.

“Glad to recieve again another 383 surrendered KPLT, including Mr Donri Kramsa ex Chairman KPLT, UPLA, & PDCK members to Bharatiya Janata Party at Dongkamukam,” Ronghang tweeted.

The rally, called “Peace and Development Rally”, was organised at Waisong Stadium under Bithung Rengthama MAC constituency, which is represented by KAAC’s Ronghang.

In his address, Ronghang said that 2,000 new jobs will be created for the local unemployed youths in the hill district before the council election in 2022.

Ronghang said the saffron party was committed to fight for an autonomous state for the three hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao under Article 244 (A) of the Constitution.

He, however, sought the help and cooperation from all sections of people in the implementation of various government schemes and programmes for the development of hill areas.

MP Horensing Bey, MLAs Rupsing Teron, Bidyasing Engleng and Darsing Ronghang, KAAC deputy speaker Ritesh Enghi, executive members and members were also present.
