Guwahati: Kokrajhar Police on Tuesday said they have arrested all persons accused in the rape and murder case of two minor girls. The police also confirmed that the girls, aged 14 and 16, had been raped and murdered.
On June 11, the bodies of the two minors were found hanging from a tree inside a forest in Abhayakuti village under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in Kokrajhar. The bodies were then sent to the local civil hospital in Kokrajhar for autopsy.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had visited the families of the girls on June 13 and had directed Assam Police to investigate the matter promptly and catch hold of the culprits at the earliest.
A Special Investigative Team constituted by Special DGP LR Bishnoi was probing the case. The culprits had been identified and 7 accused had been arrested.
Speaking to EastMojo on Tuesday, Punnam Pegu, DSP HQ, Kokrajhar, said, “Sufficient evidences have been collected and submitted in the case. Following that a chargesheet has been filed against 3 persons – Forizul Rahman (22), Nasibul Ali Sk (19), and Muzammel Sk (20). All three are residents of the same district.”
“The scientific evidences (such as post mortem, FSL reports) clearly establish the case against them,” confirmed the officer.
On June 17, one of the prime accused was grievously injured after being fired upon by the police during his alleged escape attempt in Kokrajhar. One constable was also injured after being attacked by the accused, the police had said.
The incident occurred when the police took the accused to a forest in Bedlangbari area to recover the mobile phone of one of the two victims.
The accused was grievously injured and was hospitalised after the incident, informed Special Director of Police G P Singh on Twitter.
Now close to three months after the incident, Special DGP L. R. Bishnoi informed that all those accused in the murder of the two girls have been arrested.
“HCM @himantabiswa sir visited Kokrajhar on 13/6/21 & directed us to expedite probe of rape & murder of 2 minor tribal girls. Under his consistent guidance, we nabbed all accused & today @KokrajharPolice filed 858 pgs charge-sheet! Successful prosecution will act as healer 4 family!” the officer tweeted.
His announcement was retweeted by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who lauded the Kokrajhar Police for their efforts.
