Guwahati: Assam Police on Tuesday registered a case against alleged Mizoram Police personnel and civilian miscreants who fired at the Assam’s policemen. 

Assam’s Special Director-General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh on Wednesday informed that they have registered a case at Dholai Police Station in Assam’s Cachar district under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

Singh took to Twitter and wrote: “Dholai PS Case No 236/21 under sections 120( B), 447, 336, 379, 333, 307, 302 IPC read with Section 25 (1-A) of Arms Act and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984 has been registered on July 27th 2021 about killing of Assam Police personnel on July 26th.”

He said that the incident took place at the Inner Line Reserve Forest area in Cachar district, around 1.7 kilometres southwards of Lailapur Police Point along the NH-306. 

“Assam Police has prepared a picture gallery which is being further updated of Mizoram Police personnel and civilian miscreants who fired at Assam Police on July 26th. They would be brought to law,” he added.

 “Assam Police team including officers of CID is leaving for Delhi to take lawful action relating to the conspiracy behind the incident in light of media interview of Rajya Sabha MP Sri K Vanlalvena indicative of his active role in the conspiracy,” he wrote on the microblogging site.

“Assam Police also announces a reward of INR 5 lacs for information leading to arrest of each of the individuals involved in the barbaric killing of the Assam Police personnel on July 26th 2021,” he said.

Earlier, the Assam government announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh and one job each to the families of the slain policemen. They will raise three commando battalions in Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi districts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his government will file a suit in the Supreme Court seeking intervention to ensure that “not an inch of the reserve forest is encroached upon”.
