One of the most exciting aspects of Narendra Modi’s cabinet expansion was the inclusion of ministers and leaders from various Northeast Indian states.

As speculated, former Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, was rewarded for his stellar performance in Assam with the Cabinet rank. Sonowal is now heading the Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways.

Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh leader Kiren Rijiju, who was with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is now India’s Minister of Law and Justice.

Along with Sonowal and Rijiju, Pratima Bhaumick from Tripura is now Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Rameshwar Teli is Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh from Manipur is Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Education.
