GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court denied bail to an Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati student who has been accused of rape, on Wednesday, June 16.

The prime accused in the incident has been in custody since April 3 and has been regularly requesting bail in connection with the North Guwahati Police Station Case No. 53/2021, under Section 376 of the IPC.

The High Court directed that the bail petition stands disposed of with a direction to the petitioner to approach the trial court for regular bail.

The accused had been suspended with effect from April 4, under the recommendation of the IIT Guwahati Students’ Disciplinary Committee, while four others, who were also accused, were retained on campus for further investigation.

The prime accused, Utsav Kadam, is a student of the Department of Chemistry in IIT Guwahati and hails from Mumbai. He was arrested on March 28 for allegedly raping a fellow student during an event as part of Holi celebrations.
