Assam CM hands over Rs 7 lakh cheque to Lovlina Borgohain's father

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday met with boxer Lovlina Borgohain’s father and congratulated him for his daughter’s Olympic selection and handed over cheques worth Rs 7 lakh.

This comes after the boxer became the first female athlete from the state to qualify for the coveted games.

To help Borgohain in training and other preparations for Tokyo Olympics 2020, the CM handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to her father under State Sports Policy.

Also, Sarma handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to Borgohain’s father as a token of appreciation to her on securing bronze medal at Asian Boxing Championship at Dubai.

Lovlina Borgohain will be competing in the Women’s 69kg Welterweight category at the 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan between July and August this year.
