Tinsukia: Six Dima Hasao National Liberation Army (DNLA) terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Dhansiri area of Karbi Anglong district during the early hours of Sunday in a joint operation by Assam Police and Assam Rifles.
One Assam Rifles personnel was injured in the encounter and is said to be out of danger.
According to highly-placed sources, based on a specific intelligence input about the movement of DNLA cadres in general areas close to Dimapur – Duguidisha & Missibalam reserve forest, an ambush was laid by a joint team of security forces. “At around 2.30 am, this morning, contact was established leading to a heavy gunfight between security forces and militants.”
“Six cadres were killed during the encounter,” the source said, adding, “A cache of weapons was also recovered from them.”
The recoveries from the Karbi encounter include two AK series rifles, one 303 rifle, and four pistols, live rounds of ammunition among others.
The source added a few DNLA cadres managed to flee.
Talking to EastMojo, superintendent of Karbi Anglong Police, Pushpraj Singh, said the search operation is still underway. “The injury to a security personnel is a minor one,” he added.
Assam police special DGP GP Singh tweeted: “In an early morning operation by @assampolice and Assam Rifles, six DNLA terrorists were neutralised in Dhansiri area of Karbi Anglong district. Large cache of arms & ammunition also recovered. @adgpi”
According to a top official, the operation has been named ‘Dugudisha’. The official said, the recoveries include four AK series rifles, one 303 rifle, 4 pistols, large quantity of live rounds of ammunitions.
The deceased cadres has been identified as Amarjeet alias Rounder, Nikhen alias Dhadkan, Balnes alias zingdao, Pritam alias nawa, Action Dimasa and Joreng dimasa alias Tamil.
“The injured soldier has been identified as Rfn Gd Mushtaq Ahmed Mangral, who sustained a gunshot wound in his right palm,” added the official.
