Guwahati: Raijor Dal leader and newly elected MLA from Sivasagar constituency Akhil Gogoi alleged misbehaviour by police officials while being escorted to the Assam Assembly for his swearing-in earlier today. Gogoi alleged that the police flouted COVID-19 protocols.

Questioning if this is the way an elected representative is treated, Gogoi said, “This is an insult to the democracy and the people of Sivasagar. Their representative is being manhandled within the premise of the Assembly.”

Gogoi had been in judicial custody since December 2019 after being arrested for allegedly inciting anti-CAA protests.

He had won the recently concluded Assam Assembly polls from Sivsagar LAC and will be sworn in later today. He had earlier procured court orders to attend the swearing-in.
