Guwahati: Utsav Kadam, the prime accused in the sexual assault case of IIT-Guwahati was suspended from the institute on April 4 as per recommendations of the Students Disciplinary Committee, IIT-G said in a statement released Monday morning.
The four other boys involved in the case have been isolated from each other on campus and will be retained on campus for further police investigations as well as internal investigations, the institute said.

The institute said it has been cooperating with the police in the matter of sexual assualt of an undergraduate student. “Prima facie, it has been found that the student Utsav Kadam has committed an act that has been considered a serious criminal offense by the judiciary leading to his arrest on 3rd April 2021 by the North Guwahati Police,” said IIT-Guwahati.

As reported earlier by EastMojo, the senior was booked under section 376 (rape) of the IPC.
Condemning the heinous acts by the student, IIT-Guwahati said, “The Institute is also putting in place enhanced safety and security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.”
Also, in a clarification, the institute said, “Some sections of the media have been filing unverified reports about the incident and about the Institute discharging the girl student from GMCH without following doctors advice… all due procedures were followed as per hospital guidance for discharge of the girl student.”

An undergraduate student at IIT-G was allegedly sexual assault by unknown seniors of the institute after she was found unconscious outside her hostel late on March 28. The victim was taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at about 1.30 am on March 29 for medical examination.
