Guwahati: BJP Assam has filed a complaint against the state Congress unit for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and advertising on social media platforms in the prohibited 48 hours period before the third phase of polls in the state on April 6.

Stating that Congress has “crossed all limits of democratic ethics”, BJP, in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nitin Khade said that the opposition party is promoting its “5 guarantees campaign on platforms like Facebook, violating Section 126 of the RP Act, 1951. They are running these ‘sponsored’ posts on Facebook from both their official page and ‘Congressor 5 Guarantee’ official page.”

BJP claimed that the ads were active this morning at 11.30 and has taken screenshots of the same.

The BJP codemned the “unparliamentary, unethical and criminal breach of democracy and law” by the Congress. It requested the CEO to immediately take strong actions against Congress for trying to “unfairly influence the voters before the 3rd Phase of the Assam Assembly Elections 2021.”
