Guwahati: BJP MP from Jorhat Topon Kumar Gogoi has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time on Friday.
According to reports, the 52-year-old MP got himself tested at a screening centre in Sonari.
In September last year, Gogoi had tested positive for COVID-19 and given plasma at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
As General secretary of Assam BJP, he was scheduled to participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s massive election rally in Chabua today.
On Friday, the Assam government once again made it mandatory to wear masks in public. In the order, it reiterated, “…wearing of face cover is compulsory in all public places as part of the national directives for COVID-19 management.”
Currently, India is witnessing a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. Total confirmed cases in the country are 1,15,55,284, of which 1,11,07,332 have recovered, 2,88,394 are active cases and 1,59,558 people have succumbed to the infection.
