Aayub Ali Sarma's Assamese book, An Atheist's Jail Diary talks about the 45 days he spent in jail because of his 'atheism'

The Guwahati Book Fair has been seeing a great turnout, with an average of over 60,000 visitors per day. There is no dearth of interesting books at the fair, but one book has managed to generate extra curiosity among the readers: Aayub Ali Sarma's Assamese book, An Atheist's Jail Diary.

Sarma hails from Bongaigon district of Assam. His book talks about the 45 days he spent in jail because he identifies as an atheist. Team EastMojo caught up with Sarma to hear his experiences, why he decided to write the book, and the interesting story behind his name.

Aayub Ali Sarma was born as Aayub Ali in a Muslim family. However, with time, he started to loose his belief in religions and decided to not follow Islam anymore. Aayub decided to become an atheist and took the name of Aayub Ali Sarma, since Ali and Sarma are two different surnames from two different religions.
