Map for Assam's 6th proposed national Park-Raimona National Park-unveiled
Guwahati: Assam environment and forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya unveiled the map for state's sixth proposed national park - Raimona National Park at Kokrajhar on Saturday.
This proposal has been submitted to Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi for upgrading an area of 422 sq km of notified Ripu Reserve Forest under Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve as the proposed 'Raimona National Park', said a statement.
According to studies, the Raimona under Ripu Reserve Forest is home to one of the rarest primates, the Golden Langur.
Taking to Twitter, the environment minister wrote, "Another success feather is adding to the biodiversity cap of Assam soon as we have initiated the process for approving the proposal for thre 6th National Park of Assam the 'Raimona National Park'. Today unveiled the map of this upcoming park at Mathanguri, Manas National Park."
Assam currently has five national parks which are: Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Nameri National Park and Orang National Park.
