Guwahati: Coming as a major relief for travellers, from next week onwards, COVID-19 tests for incoming passengers will be conducted in Guwahati Airport instead of Sarusajai Stadium.
Also, those travelling within Assam and Northeast by flight will no longer require to undergo mandatory COVID-19 tests.
Informing about the update travel guidelines, Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “From next week-
1. #COVID19 test for incoming flight passengers will be done in Guwahati Airport itself instead of Xarusajai.
2. Air passengers travelling within Assam and those travelling between North East States will no longer require mandatory #COVID19 testing.”
This announcement provides respite to travellers who end up spending hours at Sarusajai after landing at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
On Sunday, senior spokesperson of Assam Congress, Boobeeta Sharma had questioned the government policy of sending people to Sarusajai for a COVID test after they would land at the Guwahati airport. She has termed this policy as “harassment of common man” and asked the state government to intervene.
