Martyred soldier's family to get Rs 20 lakh: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal

Sonowal said that the braveheart of Assam will remain immortal and his sacrifice would keep inspiring the young generation

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced Rs 20 lakh financial assistance to the bereaved family of Army jawan Hardhan Chandra Roy in honor of his supreme sacrifice in North Kashmir.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with top-level Army and Assam Police officers paid respect to the mortal remains of the jawan on November 15 at his residence in Dhubri.

The chief minister said that the braveheart of Assam will remain immortal and his sacrifice would keep inspiring the young generation.

Indian Army jawan from Assam killed in Pakistan shelling

Hailing from the Phutukibari-Medhipara area in Dhubri district, Roy was among the four Army jawans killed in ceasefire-violations on Friday.

As per reports, Indian forces replied with firing which killed about seven Pakistan army soldiers, including two SSG (Special Service Group) commandos, and injured about twelve soldiers.

Roy was among the five security forces personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the cross-fire along the Line of Control (LoC) on November 13. Six civilians also lost their lives in the altercation.

Roy was serving as a havildar in the Regiment of Artillery and was posted in the Uri sector.

The Army havildar, who was taken to Dhubri in an ambulance at night was laid to rest with complete military honors at his native village in Dhubri district on Monday.
