Who said only human beings deserve the best security? Ahom Sena believes that the price of onions and potatoes have risen so much, they deserve their own security to ‘protect’ them from harm.
Members of Ahom Sena Sivasagar Division took to the roads of Sivasagar escorting a hand cart of onion and potato sacks. Spectators were astounded by the “unique” protest of escorting the cart laden with essential goods, as Ahom Sena members were hooting as whistling away the oncoming traffic. With this “dramatic” act, the members want to bring attention to the sky-rocketing prices on the essential commodities.
According to them, if the prices of daily-essential goods continue to soar, the people, including sellers, consumers, traders, etc. would require “Z+ Security.” “We need security even for the transportation of such articles, as miscreants might attack seeing such high-values commodities,” said one of the members while interacting with media.
Ankur Phukan, member of Ahom Sena stated, “The government is providing rice for Rs 1, but in exchange increased the prices of potato and onion up to Rs 40 and Rs 90 respectively.” He added, “The government should provide Z+ security to shops that deal on such expensive goods All the dealers should have Z+ security since the prices are equivalent to diamonds because of the incompetence of your administration the common people are suffering.”
Last week, the Assam government had even decided to set up a task force to ensure that prices of essential commodities, especially onion, potatoes, and mustard oil remain in check.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury, and attended by Kamrup (M) DC Biswajit Pegu. Even top officials of Food and Civil Supplies, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Agricultural Marketing Board, Guwahati Police Commissionerate, and representatives of various traders’ unions, supported the decision to form this task force.
