Arnab Goswami update: Protest in Guwahati calls for his immediate release

Hundreds including film stars, singers, cultural activists, academics and Xatradhikars protested on Sunday

Hundreds of people including cultural activists, academics, film stars, singers, and Xatradhikars under the Xocheton Nagarik Mancha, marched to Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Sunday in support of Arnab Goswami, demanding his immediate release.

This protest was against the Indian National Congress in Maharashtra as the editor-in-Chief of Republic TV was arrested by police on abetment to suicide case with two others. The 2015-established NGO, Xocheton Nagarik Mancha works in various sectors including human rights, gender, employment, health, and so on.

Informing about the protest, Assam’s Health, Education and Finance Minister tweeted, “#AssamWithArnab Hundreds of people led by filmstars, singers, cultural activists, acamedics and xatradhikars under Xocheton Nagarik Mancha joined a march to Rajiv Bhawan in Ghy as symbolic protest against @INCIndia in #Maharashtra. They demand immediate release of #ArnabGoswami”

Protests demanding the immediate release of Goswami have also erupted in other parts of the country. Lucknow, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi, etc to name a few.

As of today, the senior journalist made some shocking revelations while being transferred to Taloja jail. Goswami alleged that he was assaulted in jail and even said that his “life is in danger.”

Republic TV quoted the senior news anchor as saying, “My life is under threat. I am not allowed to speak to my lawyers. I was pushed and assaulted this morning. They woke me up at 6 am. They said I will not let you speak to the lawyers. I want to tell the people of the country that my life is under threat.” He can be seen screaming from the van before a policeman blocked him from speaking.

The 47-year-old journalist screamed at the media appealing to the people of India to urge the courts to help him while he was being shifted from judicial custody at the quarantine centre in Alibag.

The Mumbai Police on Wednesday morning (November 4) arrested Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in alleged connection with an old abetment to suicide case.

It is alleged that Goswami had abetted the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer. According to officials of Mumbai Police, an architect and his mother committed suicide in Alibaug over alleged non-payment of dues by the channel Republic TV in 2018.
