2 held with illegal arms & fake currency notes worth 5 lakh in Kokrajhar

The duo has been identified as Namalesh Daimary aged 29 and Digambar Gayary aged 25

Kokrajhar police have apprehend two suspected arms suppliers and recovered fake currency notes worth Rs 5 lakh from the possession of two persons on Thursday night. The duo is identified as Namalesh Daimary and Digambar Gayary.

Officer in charge of Kokrajhar Sadar Police station Binanda Basumatary while talking with reporters stated that they had specific information with regards to the presence of illegal arms and fake currency notes in Kokrajhar town.

The police in an operation followed a four-wheeler which was moving towards the Kendriya Vidyalaya Kokrajhar Titaguri staff quarter. There they carried out a search operation and found the said illegal arms which included pistol .22, three round bullets, and fake currency notes.

The police official added that they were able to apprehend the duo while they were on their way to distribute the fake currency in Kokrajhar town. Daimary, aged 29 was a non-teaching staff of Kendriya Vidyalaya Kokrajhar and Gayary was of 25-years old.

According to the officer in charge of the Kokrajhar Sadar Police station, the arrested persons were already involved in some anti-social activities in the area. Basumatary added that further investigations are ongoing in this matter.

This recovery also comes just months ahead of the BTC elections which were supposed to be held in April. But due to the ongoing COVID-19 conditions, the elections were pushed back to December this year. Kokrajhar is also a part of the BTR- Bodoland Territorial Region and falls under BTC- Bodoland Territorial Council.
