Guwahati: Sleuths of Assam Police raided the residence of Rakibul Islam, former general secretary of Barpeta district unit of Congress party, in the Assam Police SI recruitment case on Saturday evening.
A joint police team from Nalbari and Barpeta district searched the residence of Islam, whose wife and sister-in-law hold government posts at panchayat and rural developments respectively. However, the whereabouts of Islam is currently not known.

Earlier, additional director general of police (ADGP), law and order, GP Singh said that the former DIG PK Dutta, one of the prime suspects in the paper leak scam, will be arrested amid reports that the prime accused may surrender to the police soon.
“The CID (Criminal Investigation Department) and the Crime Branch of Assam Police have made significant progresses in this regard,” said Singh about the progress of the investigation.
On the arrest of another accused in the case, Diban Deka, Singh said “Since prime accused Diban Deka faced threats to his life, at present he has been kept in the high security lockup of the special branch of Assam Police. His interrogation is on. All people involved in this case will be nabbed.”

As per reports a total of 11 accused persons have been arrested by the Nalbari Police. In addition to it, raids and carrying out search operations are being conducted in several places within the state including Nalbari, Barpeta and Guwahati.
The CID have arrested another candidate who appeared for the exam named Abhijit Boro on Saturday in Guwahati. He stayed at Hotel Bhargav Grand, reportedly owned by PK Dutta on the night of September 19, as per reports. So far CID have made 10 arrests in connection with the case.
During the probe, sleuths recovered copies of hand-written question papers along with answers that were handed over to the 63 candidates at that hotel on September 19, reports claim.
Reports also state that the CID have further found that Boro was earlier arrested in a hijack and murder charge by the Changsari police. He had allegedly hijacked a ‘supari’ (dried betel nut)-loaded truck and then murdered the truck driver and the handyman.
