Assam: AASU meets GU vice-chancellor to revamp mode of conducting exams

All Assam Students Union (AASU) calls for exams to be held in online and offline mode

Guwahati: A delegation of All Assam Students Union (AASU), headed by its president Dipankar Kumar Nath, met with the vice-chancellor of Gauhati University (GU), professor Pratap Jyoti Handique, to plead the university administration to conduct an 'open book examination.'

This can be via both online and offline modes considering the risks of the pandemic. The envoy also requested for relaxation of the curriculum to ease pressure on the students.

AASU, Gauhati University unit had earlier issued a memorandum to the vice-chancellor of the university to revamp the mode of conducting exams that are scheduled to be held from September 30.

"We welcome the University's initiative towards conducting exams for undergraduate and postgraduate students. But ever since the announcement there has been a lot of speculation and uncertainty amongst the student community," stated the student body in the memorandum.

Citing the current situation in Assam with cases rising regularly, the Gauhati cell of AASU mentioned, "There has been an alarming rise in the number of deaths. the situation has become so dire that there has been a scarcity of beds in the many hospitals."

Meanwhile, the Gauhati University has issued a caution against a fake notice that has been circulated in the media about the postponement of the BA/BSc final examinations.

The GU administration has stated that no such notice has been issued by the Controller of Examination, GU and the dates of conducting exams remain unchanged.
