The principal and her husband were on the run a day after a police complaint was filed against them on August 31 by Child Welfare Committee Dibrugarh
Tinsukia: The education department has suspended the principal of Moran College, Mitali Konwar Deori, accused of torturing a minor domestic help on Tuesday.
The development came two days after the principal along with her husband Siddhi Prasad Deori, a doctor by profession, who was on the run since September 1, were arrested from Nagaon when they were moving from Guwahati to upper Assam.
The Director of Higher Education, Assam, issued an order placing the principal under suspension. "Pending withdrawal of departmental proceeding and in pursuance of the WT message on September 6 and letter dated September 4 received from the officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station, the department suspends principal of Moran College who has been arrested and sent to judicial custody with immediate effect."
"During the suspension period, Deori will get subsistence allowance as admissible. She shall not leave the headquarter without prior permission from the Director of Higher Education, Assam," the order said.
The couple has been arrested under section 344/326/34 IPC, R/W Sec.14 CALP Act, and R/W Sec. 75 JJ (Care and Protection of Children Act 2015).
A 13-year-old boy, who was engaged to wash 5 cars and take care of their dogs since April 2019, sustained burn injuries at his neck and back after his employer doctor Siddhi Prasad Deori, formerly with Assam Medical College & Hospital, allegedly poured hot water on him while he was sleeping on the floor on August 27.
The case came to light after the Child Welfare Committee Dibrugarh rescued the child on August 29 from the residence of the accused and lodged a police complaint against the duo 2 days later.
Earlier, Dibrugarh police had arrested the son and daughter of the couple.
