Assam Cricket Association signs MoU with Tezpur University to develop facilities
Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tezpur University to develop and utilise the cricket facilities on the university campus for seven years. The meeting took place at the Tezpur University Campus.
ACA secretary Devajit Saikia who executed and exchanged the MoU with the Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University Vinod Kumar Jain confirmed the development through a Facebook post on Saturday.
"Assam Cricket Association has formally inked an MOU with Tezpur University to develop & utilise cricket facilities, comprising of 5 turf wickets, pavilion, accommodation with floodlights in a picturesque campus for 7 years..... Highly grateful and thanks to Professor Vinod Kumar Jain and the Executive Council for kind support & cooperation to groom budding cricketers & develop the game of cricket in Assam..... with the Hon'ble VC in an official function today," Saikia wrote in his post.
Registrar of Tezpur University Dr Biren Das and ACA CEO Sujit Kakoty were also a part of the meeting.
Speaking exclusively with EastMojo, Tezpur University registrar Dr Biren Das said, “The ACA will prepare to drop in pitches as per the BCCI standards in our cricket ground, and they will maintain the pitches as well the cricket ground according to the BCCI standards.”
Speaking about the usage of the ground once completely prepared, Das said, “The ACA will use the ground for various domestic level matches under the BCCI, and other than that, we, as a university can use the ground at all times. It’s just that they will carry out the maintenance of the ground for us for a period of seven years."
Das also said that there are discussions on for establishing a training-cum-coaching camp in the camp. “The discussions are finalised and we expect that once the ground is ready, the ACA will set up a training-cum-coaching facility for the students of Tezpur University, as well as for people around the greater Tezpur area. The training and coaching camps will be carried out after the Tezpur University working hours," he said.
Das also mentioned that the ACA is expected to start the work within a month, given everything goes according to plan.
