2 separate mob attacks in Assam within 48 hours; 1 dead, 1 injured

While one was killed after a family feud turned violent in Biswanath, another was brutally beaten by locals after being mistaken for a thief in Bongaigaon

Guwahati: Assam was rocked by two separate incidents of mob attacks within a period of 48 hours. Sabin Gour from Biswanath was killed after a family feud turned violent while Majen Nath from Bongaigaon is recovering from a brutal beating by locals who they thought was a thief trying to steal from a house.

Eyewitnesses state that Gour was a daily-wage labourer in Pratapgarh tea estate which lies about 9 km from Biswanath Chariali. He was tied to a tree and was then beaten by his brother’s (Nabin) friends after he allegedly attacked him.

A woman found him lying on the floor and upon noticing that she did not know who Majen was, she locked him inside and called the locals. The locals arrived on the scene and proceeded to beat him.
