The Opposition party in Parliament did not have a deputy leader in the Lok Sabha till now
Guwahati: In a major move, the Congress MP from Kaliabar Lok Sabha constituency of Assam, Gaurav Gogoi, has been appointed as deputy leader of the party on the floor of the Lok Sabha.
Gogoi was appointed as a part of the five-member committee to discuss and formulate the party’s stand on key ordinances promulgated by the Centre, ahead of the monsoon session.
The 37-year-old MP, who is the son of former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, has been an MP in the lower House of Parliament since 2014.
The opposition party did not have a deputy leader in the Lok Sabha till now. During the previous Lok Sabha, Amarinder Singh was the deputy leader of the Congress, before he became the chief minister of Punjab.
Apart from Gogoi, Ravneet Bittu has been appointed as party’s whip.
