Chandmari Police in Guwahati nabbed the four accused based on a mobile theft complaint
Guwahati: In an interesting turn of events, four accused, who were earlier called in for questioning in connection with the alleged attack on popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, have now been nabbed again by the police based on a separate complaint.
The detainees -- Hirakjyoti Rajbangshi, Gitartha Deka, Arup Talukdar and Dishan Bhagawati -- were brought to Panbazar Police Station on Wednesday night. The police acted based on a mobile theft complaint filed at the Chandmari Police Station.
The accused on Wednesday morning had come forward and held a press conference denying the allegations posted by the prominent singer.
They instead alleged Garg of intercepting their car at Ganeshguri and causing them inconvenience. It was indicated at the press conference that Garg was actually the instigator and that their behaviour was only reactionary.
However Rajbangshi and his peers had already procured anticipatory bail against the complaint by the singer and were allowed to leave after questioning by Dispur Police Station.
The alleged incident happened on August 13 in which Garg claimed to have been attacked by four miscreants near Ganesh Mandir area of Ganeshguri in Guwahati late at night.
According to reports, the singer was travelling in his car from Zoo Road Tiniali towards his residence in Bhagadattapur, Kahilipara, around 12.40 am, when a vehicle allegedly followed him and intercepted his vehicle at Ganeshguri.
It was alleged that the miscreants came out of the vehicle and started hurling abuses towards the singer and also defamed him using beer bottles.
