Pranay Kalita of 4 Assam Rifles made the ultimate sacrifice for his country during a militant attack in Manipur on Wednesday evening
Guwahati: Mortal remains of Pranay Kalita of 4 Assam Rifles, martyred during a militant attack in Manipur on Wednesday, will reach his native place at Ghatbar Saderi village in Barpeta district on Friday.
Following instructions from the state chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the DC, Barpeta, Munin Sarma, and Superintendent of Police, Rabin Kumar Singh, visited the residence of Pranay Kalita and met the bereaved family members.
Talking to media persons, Sarma said that all necessary arrangements are in place to give full state honour to late Pranay Kalita.
The exact timing of the arrival of his mortal remains is yet to be known but senior officers of the district are in touch with the 4 Assam Rifles in this regard.
“Following the advice of honourable chief minister of the state, we visited the bereaved family members of Pranay Kalita. We are in touch with the authorities in the 4 Assam Rifles and the body will be taken to his native place on Friday,” Sarma said.
Son of Hari Prasad Kalita and Kalyani Kalita, martyr Pranay Kalita leaves behind his two daughters, who are 13 and two years of age, and his wife, Jumi Kalita.
Born on January 26, 1982, Kalita joined the 4 Assam Rifles on March 30, 2001.
At least three Assam Rifles personnel were reportedly martyred and five others injured in an ambush by suspected militants in Manipur’s Chandel district on Wednesday evening.
According to sources in Assam Rifles, the incident took place at about 6:30 pm when the foot patrolling team of 4th Assam Rifles first came under an IED attack, followed by rampant firing from militants taking shelter in the thick jungle at Khongtal village under Chakpikarong police station.
The site of ambush is around 2-km from the Assam Rifles base, sources said.
The three martyred jawans have been identified as Havildar Pranay Kalita from Assam, Rifleman Ratan Salam from Manipur and Rifleman Methna Konyak from Nagaland of 4th Assam Rifles.
Five security personnel, who got injuried are currently undergoing treatment at the military hospital.
