Actor Priyanka Chopra, husband Nick Jonas make donations to Assam flood relief organisations, urge fans to support
Guwahati: With Assam grappling with the second wave of floods that have caused widespread death and devastation, actor Priyanka Chopra and her husband singer Nick Jonas have announced donations for relief measures.
On Monday, Priyanka took to social media to announce her help and also ask her fans to support her in this initiative. Both Nick and Priyanka shared a few organisations to make donations for Assam flood relief. In her Instagram story, she wrote, “While we are all still dealing with the effects of the global pandemic, the Indian state of Assam has been grappling with another major crisis. It has been devastated by floods triggered by heavy monsoon showers affecting the lives of millions. The impact on life and land/property is unimaginable. The rapidly rising water level has also flooded the Kaziranga National Park, one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the world.”
She also added, “They need our attention and support. I’m sharing details of a few credible organizations that are doing some good work on the ground in Assam, and Nick and I have made a donation to each. Let us support them so they can continue to help those in need. #Assamfloods #PrayForAssam #AssamNeedsHelp.” Nick shared the same story on his Instagram and also urged his fans to come forward and help in the relief donations.
She even shared a tweet with regards to the help needed in mitigating the damages caused by this year’s floods.
While a total of 97 people have lost their lives due to the ongoing floods, more than 26lakh people in 27 districts have been affected so far. In a flood report bulletin by ASDMA, it said that over 129 animal lives of various species were lost due to floods and 157 others were rescued from Kaziranga National Park alone. Additionally, the Centre also announced that Rs 346 crore will be provided to the state under the Flood Program Management scheme on July 22.
