Guwahati: Another five people have died due to floods in Assam as on Friday evening, taking the state's death toll to 76. The casualties have been reported from Gauripur (1), Mangaldai (1), Boitamari (1), Rongjuli (1) and Nagardera (1).
According to the latest update by Assam State Disaster Management Authority, floods have affected 35,75,832 people across 28 of the 33 districts in Assam. Dhubri is now the worst hit district with 892,109 people from 581 villages getting affected.
Floods have impacted 88 revenue circles, and 3,014 villages and localities. Over 51,000 people are staying in 304 relief camps across the state.
Seven rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat (Jorhat), Tezpur, Goalpara and Dhubri; Dhansiri at Numaligarh; Jia Bharali at Sonitpur; Kopili at Dharamtul; Beki in Barpeta; Barak in Cachar and Karimganj; and Kushiyara river in Karimganj.
Meanwhile, in Kaziranga National Park, 86 animals have died due to the floods, and 125 animals have been rescued so far. Of the 223 camps, 80 camps are affected and 6 camps have been vacated, as reported by the DFO Eastern Assam Wildlife division.
