Amid 14-day lockdown, ambulance selling vegetables, fish and chicken seized by police in front of Dispur Hospital in Guwahati's Ganeshguri area
Guwahati: Amid the 14-day-lockdown in Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district, an ambulance was seized by the police in Ganeshguri area of Guwahati on Thursday. As per reports, the vehicle was not transporting patients but was being illegally used to sell vegetables, live chicken and fish.
The ambulance was seized around 11.40 am in front of Dispur Hospital on Thursday.
The ambulance was loaded with vegetables, chicken and fish, which the people operating it were illegally selling to residents in Ganesguri area. “After receiving reports from concerned citizens, our police officials immediately visited the area where they saw four to five people buying the items,” said Himangshu Das, ACP, Dispur. However, the miscreants along with the buyers managed to flee the scene leaving the ambulance behind.
According to data by Union ministry of road transport and highways, the ambulance is registered under the name of Lohit Das as its owner.
Later, the police seized the ambulance along with the items inside and are on the lookout of the culprits.
