Search operation by security forces results in recovery of huge cache of firearms of various calibre, grenades, explosives, RPG/mortar bombs in Lal Pathar forest area
Chirang: In one of its largest seizures of arms and ammunition in the district in recent times, security forces during a 12-day-long operation recovered a huge cache of firearms of various calibre, grenades, explosives and RPG/mortar bombs from forest areas of Lal Pathar in Assam's Chirang recently.
Army sources informed that on receipt of intelligence inputs from sources and military intelligence units regarding presence of a huge cache of arms and ammunition, a unit of the Red Horns Division of the Indian Army conducted a joint operation along with Assam Police, SSB, and COBRA battalion in the forested area of Lal Pathar in Chirang.
Sources further said that the search for 12 days yielded recovery of huge cache of firearms of various calibre, grenades, explosives, RPG/mortar bombs.
“The operation has resulted in the second biggest unearthing of arms in the area in the recent times. The recovery has been beneficial in ensuring peace in the region after the onset of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR),” sources added.
The recovery also goes a long way in maintaining peace, keeping in mind the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) elections in the area.
