Guwahati: Assam's health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been working on a war footing amid the COVID-19 crisis, has been diagnosed with a kidney stone, and will be undergoing treatment.

Sarma, who is always on the go, supervising COVID-19 transfer and release procedures, inaugurating test labs and visiting quarantine centres for inspection, took to Twitter to inform about the development.

He wrote, "After an episode of extreme pain in stomach, doctors in GMCH have detected a kidney stone measuring 3.76 mm through Ulltra Sono Graphy in VUJ position. Taking saline and injections to overcome the pain. Will take rest for the day."

Sarma has been on the forefront in Assam's battle against the highly contagious virus. Under his charge, Assam has successfully conducted over 2 lakh COVID-19 tests, and recorded a test rate of 5,744 per million, beating several bigger states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha etc.
