Kokrajhar: Despite being in existence for the past 45 years, Uttama Sen High School in Assam's Kokrajhar district was once again deprived of success in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, the results of which were declared on Saturday.

For the third year in a row, the school achieved the dubious record of not producing a single student clearing the HSLC (Class X Board) examination. All the eight students who appeared in the exams this year were declared 'failed', as the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) declared the results on Saturday morning.

While three students appeared in 2019, five students unsuccessfully appeared in the HSLC examination from the school in 2018.

Incidentally, the headmistress of the school, Shila Mitra, was put under suspension about three months ago for alleged negligence of duty.

Meanwhile, in a significant development, Jagadish Prasad Brahma, director in-charge (education), BTC, who is also the inspector of schools, Kokrajhar, while speaking with EastMojo, hinted that the Bengali-medium school will be merged with some other school of the district this year.

A section of the people in the area said that the school was performing well right from its establishment till 2017. "But something went wrong in 2017, and since then the school has failed to produce a single student who could clear the Class X Board examination since then," said a local resident.

The overall pass percentage of HSLC examination in Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) has improved this year compared to the previous year. According to official sources, the breakup of the pass percentage in BTAD is Kokrajhar at 59.30%, Chirang at 64.59%, Baksa at 69.72% and Udalguri at 57.92%.

Incidentally, Rashidul Ali Sheik of Nabajyoti Madrasa School in Kokrajhar secured the third position in the Assam High Madrasa (AHM) examination this year.

Meanwhile, All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) president Dipen Boro congratulated the successful candidates of HSLC and AHM examinations.
