Chirang Police along with Koilamoila forest staff conducted the search operation at Khoirabari village under Amguri PS along Indo-Bhutan border on Wednesday
Kokrajhar: In a joint operation, officials of the forest department and the police busted two illegal saw mills and recovered a huge number of timber logs at Koirabari in Assam's Chirang district on Wednesday.
Based on specific information about the illegal running of saw mills inside forest areas, Chirang police along with Koilamoila forest staff conducted the search operation in the area of Khoirabari village under Amguri police station along the Indo-Bhutan border and seized two illegal saw mills.
They recovered a huge number of timber logs from the spot. The seized items were brought to the Koilamoila forest office. However, no one was arrested in this regard.
“Regular checking and patrolling along the forest areas are being done in the region and accordingly, on Wednesday, we managed to bust the illegal saw mills,” said a senior forest official.
In the last week of May, forest department officials and SSB jawans from Saralpara in Kokrajhar district jointly seized three timber log-laden tractors and bullock carts at Ultapani forest area from timber smugglers.
Three poachers were also apprehended by forest department on Monday morning while they were hunting wild animals along the deep jungles under Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district.
